What is the main difference between Justworks PEO and Justworks Payroll?

Justworks PEO provides an all-in-one solution that includes payroll, HR support, benefits, and compliance into one offering. Through our PEO Plus Plan, you can access large-group health insurance sponsored by Justworks, choose from open market plans, or transfer an existing plan*. The PEO Plus Plan includes access to a suite of other benefits, including mental health, wellness, family planning, and more, at no added cost. Fitness benefits offered at preferred pricing can also be included for an additional cost.

Justworks Payroll is a solution that includes payroll services and HR tools. With the option to add on health insurance, you get the flexibility to browse open market plans or carry over your existing coverage.* This enables small businesses like yours to manage benefits seamlessly from one payroll solution without the full commitment of a PEO. Currently, using open market plans with Payroll does not cost an additional Justworks Payroll administrative fee, though this is subject to change.

*Please note that some carriers are only available in select states or regions when accessed through Justworks. Policy transfers are only available with approved carriers in certain states.

Do you offer health benefits in my state?

Through Justworks PEO Plus plan small businesses get to access plans and coverage in all 50 states that are typically only available in the large group market. You can also browse and select a wider variety of health insurance plans through open market plans, or even elect to carry over your existing health insurance plan, depending on your state and carrier. 

Justworks Payroll customers can access benefits across multiple states, though specific benefits available vary depending on the state and carrier.

What happens if I have employees in other states?

We can help! Through our PEO product, Justworks can provide you and your team access to the quality benefits and perks you want — no matter what state your employees are in.

What carriers does Justworks work with?

We partner with trusted health insurance providers who have a reputation for quality. Through our PEO, we work closely with top carriers* like Aetna, Kaiser Permanente, and United Healthcare to provide you with access to large-group sponsored health insurance plans at fair rates. Customers can also browse from a wider variety of national carriers available through open market plans. 

*Please note that some carriers are only available in select states or regions when accessed through Justworks.

How does Justworks calculate health insurance plan quotes?

Our data-driven underwriting process gives us a full picture of your team's unique needs, which helps us provide you with the most accurate quote and best option that fits your needs. As your company grows and changes, we'll help you evaluate your options to ensure your health insurance plan is the best choice to fit your needs.

How many employees does my company need to have to access health insurance through Justworks?

Companies must have at least 2 employees (at least one non-owner employee) in separate households to be eligible for benefits accessed through Justworks. Please note: W-2 employees and business owners (paid or unpaid) both suffice as benefits-eligible employees if they work at least 30 hours per week.

Can I choose to offer employee benefits at a later date?

Yes! You can begin the health insurance application process any time you’re ready to provide access to benefits. Simply reach out to your Customer Success Manager or our Support Team to get started.

Can I switch from offering benefits on Justworks Payroll to Justworks PEO?

Yes, if your company’s needs have evolved to need more robust compliance support and HR tools you can easily switch to Justworks PEO and continue to offer benefits.* Opt for the Justworks PEO Plus Plan to continue to offer benefits plus get mental health, fitness, and wellness perks included. Just reach out to our Support Team to inquire about the process. 

*This is subject to meeting the requirements necessary to switch to Justworks PEO, including having a minimum of two W-2 employees and receiving worker’s compensation approval.
